Article Topic:  The aim of this study is to analyze the relationship between serum S100A8 and the severity of community-acquired pneumonia (CAP). The results showed that serum S100A8 was elevated in CAP patients upon admission, and serum S100A8 was positively correlated with CAP severity score, blood routine parameters, and inflammatory cytokines; In addition, knocking down the S100A8 gene can alleviate the inflammatory factors induced by Streptococcus pneumoniae in A549 cells. S100A8 may be involved in the occurrence and development of CAP, and has a significant impact on the pathophysiology of CAP. It can be used as an early serum diagnostic marker for CAP and may become a therapeutic target for CAP in future clinical applications.
